Lightworker Scavenger Hunt

The Keepers have been talking a lot lately about Lightworkers.  Last month’s Live Channeling event (now a website download) was on the topic of “Leadership and Change: You Are the Ones You’ve Been Waiting For” which was all about how we are learning to lead by example, rather than leading by bossing each other around --  though the Keepers said it a bit more nicely than that!

I posted a channeling last week about Lightworkers that said:

It is time to expand your definition of what it means to be a Lightworker.  It is time to expand your identity as a Lightworker to include everyone around you.  It is time then to start looking around and noticing that the most mundane situation can be filled with Light.  It is time to look around and start noticing that the most unassuming, quiet person in the room might be the one who is bringing the most Light.”

Most of the channelings and most of what you’ll find online about Lightworkers tell us how be Lightworkers ourselves.  But what the Keepers have focused on lately is how much everyday life events are really expressions of Lightwork -- how we don't necessarily need to be involved in spiritual or energy work to be Lightworkers.

In that light, I’m going a Lightworker scavenger hunt and I’m inviting you to join me.  Every time I enter a new social situation, instead of asking myself how I can bring more Light, I’m going to start hunting for those magical souls who are bringing more light – each in their own way.  Then I'm going to help them, or celebrate them, or just sit back in awe and admiration as they work their mojo!

It’s easy to pick out the obvious ones -- the minister at the pulpit or the healer giving someone a hug over in the corner.   It’s not so easy to spot the stealthy ones --the kind soul who slows down while crossing the street in order to protect an elderly stranger, or the teenage boy making jokes in the hospital waiting room in order to ease the tension.

I’ll give myself extra points for the ones I spot who have probably never even heard the word Lightworker -- the ones who show kindness in everyday moments because it’s in their nature, it’s just who they are.  Because “just who they are” is a Lightworker.

It doesn’t matter what language you use or what social movement you are part of – if you sense the hearts of others and strive to make those around you just a little lighter, just a little more at ease – then you’re a Lightworker.

Hunting for hidden Lightworkers is fun.  It give me a sense of hope to realize that I am surrounded by them, and that whatever I’m striving to do to make the world a better place is supported by countless moments across the world in which others are doing the very same thing.

So let's make the Comments field for this blog post be a place where you can tell us about a hidden Lightworker you've spotted.  I can't wait to see what you discover in the months to come!

Grounding Food

Because I spend a lot of time channeling the Akashic Records, I can become pretty ungrounded if I’m not careful.  Sometimes, after doing a few consultations, I think I’m fine until I need to remember my phone number and realize I can’t. Or I find myself emptying dirty dishes from the dishwasher without realizing until I’m halfway through. If I’m not careful, it starts to feel normal to be a little spaced out. And I’ve learned the hard way that walking through life like a space cadet means I miss out on a lot of important stuff. (Here's a web page that does a great job explaining what it means to be grounded.)

Luckily I’ve developed some tools to keep me grounded on the days I’m doing channeling work. Some of the healthier ones include deep breathing exercises, walking barefoot in the grass when it’s warm outside, and quick yoga sessions between appointments. And always drinking lots of water.

But sometimes I’m not quite organized enough to do those healthy routines. So I take a shortcut. My favorite shortcut? Food. Salty, greasy food.

Don’t get me wrong – I do eat my share of solid meals that are organic and healthy. But in the moments following a channeling, when I just don’t have it in me to cook or lay out my yoga mat, I go for the not-so-good stuff.

If I can spare more than five minutes, I boil edamame with lots of salt.  Not bad for a five minute fix.

But sometimes I feel like I can't wait longer than 25 seconds, so I go for Lay’s potato chips. Not the organic kind, not even the baked kind – I head straight for the original, saltiest-greasiest things I’ve ever found. And they work like a charm.

And, yes, I realize this is my second food confession in the last couple of weeks. (See Girl Scout Cookies, below.) What can I say? I’m only human.

Over the years I’ve asked people what they do to get their energy grounded after doing spiritual work. It’s amazing how many ways there are to get grounded. I’ve heard about headstands, touching houseplants, and imagining a cable connecting you with the core of the Earth. Some people use crystals, talismans, leather, stones, and other materials to help anchor their energy.

I’ve heard from some lucky people in warm climates that jump into the salty ocean. The nearest I can come to that in Seattle is an Epsom salt bath, which is great when I have the time, or when really deep grounding is needed.

I’ve met one person who rubs his feet with garlic. I've also heard from someone who walks in mud then keeps the mud under her socks all day. I trust that there is a perfect way for each of us, and it’s up us to listen to our bodies and follow our instincts to determine what works best. Sometimes I see a tendency in the New Age movement to get ungrounded and stay ungrounded. It might feel great to float through life, but I think we miss out on the magic of being human which includes really feeling our bodies and our emotions. We incarnated here for a reason, right?

So take some deep breaths, eat something healthy, and notice what you’re feeling. Or, if you're in a pinch, try something salty. Being grounded in our bodies is a beautiful thing!

I Wish I Had a Map

When I was young, no one ever told me that I would grow up to be an Akashic Records channeler.  As I've built my career (is it really a career to be a channeler?!  I still wonder....) I search far and wide for someone to tell me how to do this.  The business folks provide some help, the New Age folks offer insight, but there just is not a map for what I'm doing.  And maybe that is as it should be, yet I still long for a map.

The reason I’ve decided to write a blog is to make a space for Lightworkers to learn about what Lightwork looks like from the inside out.  I can't write your map for you, but I can show you mine as it comes along.

I know many of you read the channelings on my website, and you wonder how it is that I do what I do.

How exactly does channeling and other Lightwork, work?

How in heaven’s name does one run a successful business doing something like channeling?

And how on Earth does one straddle the “woo woo” world and the everyday world at the same time?

There really isn’t a map out there to tell us how to run a New Age business.  So we write the map as we go along.

I can tell you what it’s been like for me so that maybe you can avoid some of the mistakes I’ve made over the years.  And maybe you can share some of your experiences, too.  (There is a comment section on this blog, and I hope you use it!)

If we all share our experience, then together we can write the maps for how work gets done in an enlightened world.

In the weeks to come, you’ll see me explaining some of the nuts and bolts of working in the New Age movement.  You’ll see me explain more about the Akashic Records and how they relate to other spiritual tools and models.  You’ll see me go through the ups and downs of trying to be a real person with a real life – even as I work to be a clear channel for the Akashic Records.  And you will get to explore many resources that I find useful along the way.

My hope is that you will find a friendly voice who can help you navigate your own path – bridging the high ideals of New Age spirituality with the everyday challenges of human life.  I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t think any teacher does.  The new way of being in this world means that no one person has the map for all of us.  We create the map as we go, and if we share what we learn, we’ll all move forward together with grace.  Plus, everything can be so much more fun if we do it together!
